- Scope and ContentCharles Hines: worked for Matthew Dancer. There were 2 sacks of barley meal in the barn when he locked it. Next morning he found 3 or 4 bushels gone. Matthew Dancer: agreed the meal was in the barn before it was missed. John Millard: found the meal at George Janes house. He went to George Poulter's house and found him in bed, where he claimed to be when the meal was stolen. William Dimmock: was asked by Poulter to go to the barn. When he got there Poulter was in the barn. He had bought a sack which Dimmock held open as Poulter put the meal in the sack. They then took it to George Janes premises and put it into a pigsty. He saw Poulter on Monday and Poulter showed him the 3 shillings and 6 pence he had got for it. He gave Dimmock a shilling and 9 pence. James Adams: saw George Poulter and William Dimmock at the top of Mathew Dancers yard. Poulter asked if there were barley meal about the place.Statement of the accused - George Poulter: no comment made
