    Mary Field: left a sovereign and a half sovereign in a salt cellar in the front room. On returning she discovered the half sovereign gone. Her children and Lucy Prosser, the younger, had been in the room before her, so she asked them all if they had taken it. They all denied it. Lucy Prosser looked confused so Mary Field told her she would call John Millard, the police constable. The mother of Lucy Prosser, also Lucy Prosser, denied taking or receiving the coin. On the arrival of Millard, Lucy Prosser confessed to have taken the coin and given it to her mother, who told her to say nothing more about it. Lucy Prosser, the younger: worked for Mrs Field. She went into the front room and took the half sovereign. She took it to her mother, who told her to say nothing about it. 2 days previous, the baker had come round to her mother's house and her mother could not pay him, so he refused to leave any more bread. Sarah Watson: Lucy Prosser claimed to have no knowledge of it, to her. John Millard: attended the Field house and heard Lucy Prosser, the younger, confess. He visited Lucy Prosser, the mother, and asked her how much money she had. She claimed to be quite destitute.Statement of the accused - Lucy Prosser: claimed to be innocent
