Scope and Content
22 years of age. Born in the city of Worcester where his father James Manton then a soldier in the 14th Regiment of Foot was quartered but belonged to St Paul, Bedford. When he was 14 he was placed out apprentice by the Harpur Charity to John Manton of St Paul, Bedford, shoemaker for seven years by Indenture. He served about two and a half years when his master and he not agreeing they parted. On 21 April 1823 at St John, Bedford he married Susannah Fleming.
