- Scope and ContentAbout 18 years of age. Born in Simpson near Fenny Stratford, county of Buckingham where her father Thomas Halbury then resided but belonged to Hawnes [Haynes] where he had gained his settlement by service. About 8 years ago her father and his family having become chargeable to Simpson, he, her mother, this Examinant two brothers and three sisters were removed by Order to Hawnes where they were received and maintained. About five years ago her mother let this Examinant to Joshua Beard of Hawnes, miller. She went about Whitsuntide and continued there about 14 months. Afterwards she lived as a servant with Mr Dunham of Hawnes for about three quarters of a year then came to Bedford. A fortnight after Old Michaelmas Day 1820 whe let herself to Reuben Howard of St Paul, Bedford, tripe seller until Old Michaelmas 1821 at wages of £3.10.0 which she received, she was not hired for a year but only til Old Michaelmas Day following. Lived as a servant with Thomas Warner at the gaol for nine weeks and earned her living at other times by making lace.
