About 37 years of age. Born in Bedford. When he was 14 he was placed out apprentice by the Trustees of Harpur’s Charity to his father Benjamin Spence of St Paul, Bedford, wool sorter for seven years. He served the first six years with his father in St Paul, Bedford. He then went to London and worked in Bermondsey. On 31 Aug 1805 he returned to his father and served the remainder of his time until 9 Oct following. Married on 1 January 1823 at St Peter, Bedford, to Sarah Lewis.
