- Scope and Content24 years of age. Born in St Paul, Bedford where his father John Dawson, labourer then resided but belonged to Bletsoe. He was taught the trade of shoemaker by William Pearse of St Paul, Bedford to whom he paid half a crown a week fo the time he was learning a trade. He worked under that agreement 8 weeks but was not an apprentice. About 6 years ago last March he left Bedford and from that time until 29 Oct 1821 he resided with various Masters at many different places. On 29 Oct he arrived in Bedford on his way to his parish of Bletsoe but found himself too ill to proceed further on the road.In Nov 1820 he hired a ready furnished lodging in Balwins Gardens, Grays Inn Lane, St Andrew Holborn for which he paid 5s a week and continued in that lodging until last March. Married last Whitsuntide at St Andrew, Holborn to Jane Scott.
