- Scope and ContentLast Thursday night she was walking with Thomas Warner, ostler of the Kings Arms Inn, Ampthill, when Joseph Read (a married man) asked her to go with him - she refused. He then seized her and dragged her over 100 yards and asked if she would come with him as she used to do. She refused - he threatened to drown her. Then said she would meet him again, but did not. On Saturday evening she was waking with Elizabeth Dennis and Ann Virgin - Joseph Read met her and dragged her into the entrance of the Red Lion public house and then into a little back yard against her wish. He threatened to shoot her if he saw her with any young man.
