  • Scope and Content
Last Thursday night she was walking with Thomas Warner, ostler of the Kings Arms Inn, Ampthill, when Joseph Read (a married man) asked her to go with him - she refused. He then seized her and dragged her over 100 yards and asked if she would come with him as she used to do. She refused - he threatened to drown her. Then said she would meet him again, but did not. On Saturday evening she was waking with Elizabeth Dennis and Ann Virgin - Joseph Read met her and dragged her into the entrance of the Red Lion public house and then into a little back yard against her wish. He threatened to shoot her if he saw her with any young man.
