- Scope and ContentAs she was going up to Mr Mardling's she met Mr Robinson going down. Robinson talked to some girls and boys at the bottom of the lane. Mardling was coming down the Street and said "if any one comes to interrupt me I'll strike him". Robinson went up to him and said "I am the man". There was a scuffle between them. She saw Robinson collar Mardling before the scuffling. She fetched Mrs Mardling who tried to take a stick away from her husband and saw Robinson hit her with the handle of his whip. She saw Robinson hit Mardling several times with his whip after Robinson collared him, and saw Robinson dragging Mardling along the ground. She heard Mardling swear at Robinson.
