- Scope and ContentWilliam Robinson - on 15 April between 8pm and 9pm he met Thomas Mardling in Kempston Street near his house. About 40 yards on he heard a noise from where he had left Mardling. As he is constable of Kempston he went back to Mardling and asked what he meant by such a noise. Mardling swore, said he would split Robinson's head open and struck him several times on the head with his fists. Before Robinson got to Mardling he heard someone say "here's the constable coming" and then heard Mardling say "blast him, I'll split his head open - I owe him an old grudge". Thomas Mardling - Robinson said he had an order from the magistrates to whip him and went to George Hart's for a whip. "He whipped me before I struck him". William Robinson - he never whipped him until Mardling got him down and got hold of his throat. He struck him on the hand to make him let go.
