- Scope and ContentHe was sent for the previous night due to a breach of the peace at Bettles' father-in-law's house in Canning Street. Saw a crowd in the road outside the house, with Bettles talking loudly and violently in the crowd. His father tried to calm him but failed. Bettles threatened him and said "Damn you Police man - I'll kill the kit of you if I ever get you singly". With help from Pennyfather, another constable, Paviour tried to get Bettles into the house, but he came out with raised fists offering to fight him. Taken into custody but violently resisted and kicked Paviour in the hip, causing him to fall and sustain bruises on his arm and face.
