    About 25 years of age. Born in St Peter, Bedford where his late father resided and belonged. At about 14 years of age he was placed out apprentice by the Harpur’s Charity to Edward Chew of Shefford, shoemaker for seven years by Indenture dated the 13 October 1807. He served five years and a half of his apprenticeship with this master at Shefford when disagreeing with his Master it was mutually agreed by them to part which they did and he enlisted into the Royal Marines where he continued three years when he was discharged. He was married at Midsummer 1816 at St Mary, Bedford to Mary Bryant by whom he has one child, Bartholomew aged about six months.
