  • Scope and Content
Daniel Hazard: along with constable Bowman witnessed Cherry go into a house in Pirton, whilst Newberry waited outside. Cherry came out with a bag and the pair walked towards Shitlington. They later saw the pair again, with Newberry carrying a bag and stick. Hazard attempted to look in the bag. Newberry ran off and left the bag behind. Bowman seized Cherry. The bag was opened and inside was dead but warm fowls. Mrs Gurney could identify the fowl. George Bowman: having seized Cherry and opened the bag, he proceeded with Hazard to confirm the idenitfy of the fowl with Gurney. Bowman was at first uncertain of the second theif, orginally believing him to be Dick Shepherd. However, he detained Newberry and found his boots matched exactly marks left in the ground at the gurney farm.
