    Thomas Tyler: had hung a quantity of straw plait in the yard on 3 November 1848, and later that evening it was missing. He recognises his own straw plait by how it is tied. James Wright: saw the accused walking up Market Street with straw plait under his coat. James Beck: saw the accused walking up the hill towards Cheverells Green and ran after him, but fell down and he got away. George Baker, police constable: took Dean into custody but found no plait on him. James Andrews found the plait and handed it to Baker. James Andrews: was asked by George Baker to look for the straw plait and found it in David Cains hay rick, below the thatch. Reuben Dean: refused to comment.
