    Alfred Flint: whilst a the Sportman public house in Stopsley, he left his cart of bread at the door. On returning home he noticed 2 quartern loaves to be missing. On returning to the Sportman later in the week, he was shown 1 quartern loaf and the top of another, by Joseph Welsh, the publican. He identified these loaves as his. Jospeh Welch: he had been told by his wife of the missing loaves. About an hour later, he went into the loft of the public house where George and John Smith had been sleeping. He found a quartern loaf and the top of another hidden. Welch called John Smith to the bar, and he confessed his brother had taken the bread. George Smith confirmed this. John Millard, police constable: George Smith told Millard, that he had taken the bread from the cart and given it to his brother John. They then took it to the loft. John agreed with this evidence.
