Deposition of John Biggerstaff of Great Barford, horsekeeper to Mr Benjamin Jefferies, in case of James Makins of Great Barford, labourer, charged with setting fire to a hay rick.

On Friday night October 19th he was in Mr Benjamin Jefferies stable and heard the cry of fire at about 15 or 20 minutes to 7. He ran across the Close into the footpath leading to the Church and saw the prisoner standing between the footpath and the ditch near the stile against Mr Allen's back close. This was about 150 yards from Mr Risely's premises, and Makins had nothing in his hand that he could see.They spoke briefly, then he ran on with Makins coming after, but saw no more of him.
