  • Scope and Content
Copy letter to C. P. Hall from Frederic Tanqueray of Woburn, solicitor [on the reverse is a list of deeds R6/3/9/1-16 above]: “I now enclose you these deeds as per schedule on the other side the receipt – of which please acknowledge. The conveyance should be executed by His Grace and the Trustees”. “On completing the purchase Mr. Jessopp the Vendor’s Solicitor claimed the enclosed costs. I objected to pay the items relating to the Acknowledgement as in my opinion such costs should be paid by the Vendor under Sec. 2 and Sec. 4f the Vendors and Purchasers Act 1874. Mr. Jessopp would not give way and I thought it better not to delay completion and I therefore paid the Bill reserving to myself the right to tax the whole Bill”. “The amount is not large and it is very probable that the expense of taxation would amount to more than could be got off”. “I should be glad to receive your instructions”.
