Scope and Content
To the poor in the 3 hospitals of London – Christ’s, Bart’s and St. Thomas’s, £100 each. £400 to 40 maidservants “such as are known to be protestants and to live under the episcopal government and not reputed to be of presbeterian religion Quakers or any other of the new upstarted religious”, £10 each. To 2 kinsmen Nicholas and Thomas Bonfoy £100, and to their wives £10 for rings; to godson Hugh Bonfoy £500, and to other Bonfoy children £100 each; to 2 sisters of Bonfoys £100 and to their husbands £10. Monetary bequests also to Anne Canfield goddaughter, 4 children of cousin Samuel Bonfoy deceased, Susannah Hyde wife of Harris and her children, kinsman Edward Waterhouse, nephew William Harvey and his sons Robert, Hugh and Benjamin, and daughter Sarah, nephew Robert Harvey and his wife, and to his eldest son John, his 2 younger sons and 2 daughters, kinsman Robert Shirley and wife and 2 daughters, cousin Mary Davies, cousin Mary Griffith, cousin Price and husband, to halfbrother William Harvey, friend Mrs. Sarah Methwolde, John Glover and sister Priscilla, John Lardner “sometime one of my clerks”, Sir Ralph Sydenham, Hugh Lord Colrane [Coleraine] and Sir Ralph Hare baronet, Hugh Hare son of Lord Colrane, cousin James Clerk and daughter Elizabeth, Mary Lockwood “in regard and recompence and towards a satisfaction of her broken sleeps and pains taken with me in all my sicknesses”, Mr. Lant, the minister, Edward Dodson, my brother’s late servant, to poor householders “whose charge is greater than their means can support”, Reverend Doctor Dukeson, Mr. Knowles my surgeon, Honourable Society of the Inner Temple “whereof I am a member”, towards the repairing of their church, Mrs. Saunders late wife of Mr. Dillan, cousin Gulston’s 2 younger sons, Reverend Doctor Sebastian Harvey, John Gardiner, Reverend Doctor Ball, Mr. Fyfield, butler of the Inner Temple and clerk of the church there, and to the steward and the other butlers. All sums of money lent on mortgages etc., to be sold, to pay debts. Executors: Thomas Bonfoy, Robert Harvey and Thomas Davies.
