Scope and Content
"Dear Stileman Gibbard,
Many thanks for your kind letter of the 9th, which I should have answered sooner; but I was hindered by inflammation in my eye for two or three days. After your explanation of the present state of affairs I have no hesitation in agreeing to remain as a trustee of the Reformatory. Previously I had no idea that there were so many co-trustees as you now enumerate. I know that a change of trustees used to be expensive, and probably may be so still if private trustees have to be appointed. But I believe there is no expense at all in appointing the public trustee, who has the British govt responsible for his integrity. He is paid by very slight fees for the business which he has to transact in each case; and I believe that he is now trustee for millions of both public and private funds. Probably you know all about him; if not, write to the Public trustee London, and he will send you a little pamphlet which gives all necessary direction & instruction. Naturally he is not much in favour with the legal profession. With our united regards to all you circle. Believe me very sincerely your Richd Orlebar.
Our grandson Dick O. is now in France but not yet quite at the front.
