Sends news cut from the Argus. Thinks Lorimer Feton should have followed some other calling i.e. 'army …it is thought here his Christianity is confined to his neckerchief and coat..'. Cornell Feton seems to be working as a labourer Henry [Martell] is in better spirits and confident of being appointed to one of the new state schools when finished. Building continues in Melbourne. Fine princely house is being erected for the Governor. Since last writing a flannel or shawl factory has started – cannot execute half the orders and are obliged to send home for additional machinery. Also glass bottle factory and sugar refinery (at cost of £160,000). Is puzzled at instance of an amputation without loss of blood performed by one of local surgeons, Dr Gillesbee, last week.
