1) Humphrey Carte of Ampthill, innkeeper.
2) Benjamin Johnson of Bedford, builder and carpenter; Thomas Row of Ampthill, dealer in straw plait and William Baker of Hazlewood Lane, Houghton Conquest, yeoman.
3) Samuel May of Ampthill, draper and Ezra Eagles of Ampthill, gent. trustees and acting executors of the last will of Thomas Brace Stone, late of Ampthill, deceased.
4) John Eagles of Ampthill, gent.
Recites:
- Mortgage of 31 March 1823 between Humphrey Carte, eldest son and heir at law of Humphrey Carte the elder, late of Ampthill, malster, deceased and Benjamin Johnson, Thomas Row and William Baker for consideration of £350.
The mortgage has been called in, all interest being paid but not the principal sum. 1) has agreed with 3) that they will advance him £350 to pay to 2) and a further £350 making a total of £700 at an interest of £4 ten shillings per cent per annum.
- Messuage commonly called the King's Head formerly in the tenure of Ann Leach, widow, and hereto in the possession or occupation of Thomas Carte, since ----Webb, late of Thomas Chater and now the said Humphrey Carte, in Woburn Street or Mill Street and adjoining a capital messuage or mansion house late of Thomas Carte being formerly but one messuage now or late in the tenure of William Moody Tailor, the messuage or tenement of the said Thomas Carte in the occupation of Thomas Shortland and now of Ebenezer Handscombe being on or towards the west side of the said messuage and both the said tenements front upon the Street or Market Place there onor towards the south.
Extensive terms of the mortgage in case of default etc. including that the residue of the term of one thousand years should be assigned to John Eagles upon trusts.
