- Scope and ContentTo James Ellis junior, cotton spinner at present in Dundee, £200, all books, furniture, table linen and clothes. To Rebecca Randall spinster of Eton, Berkshire, £5 per annum, requests Mr. Cotton of Salthill, Berkshire, to convey it to her. To brothers Jeremy, John and Edward all residue. Witnesses: John Gartly, John Starks, Robert Peacock. Codicil: written on board the Surprise, Spithead. Thomas Fish Palmer, clerk. To nephew Charles £100. Revokes bequest of £200 to James Ellis, he to have £100 and clothed etc. 1 April 1794. Codicil: on board the Surprise Transport “in case I should die either in my passage to Botany Bay” or during residence there or “passing therefrom”; revokes bequest to James Ellis, he to have clothes, linen, wines, liquors etc. To Mr. William Christie of Woodstone, Montrose, £50. To Mrs. Rebecca Randall spinster, a blind gentlewoman at Eton, £10 per annum, brothers to pay Mr. Cotton, schoolmaster at Salthill “her friend and agent”. 22 April 1794.
