    Mr. William Harbett always offered his visitors a drink, so although there was a lot of drink in the house, he by no means drank all of it. Also evidence [also draft] of Mr. John Anstee ‘the friend to whom Mr. Harbett referred on effecting the Policy and who signed the Questions put by the Company’.’ Mr. Harbett was an eccentric man and used to pay his addresses to many young ladies. . . . During the last few months of his life Mr. Harbett got into Mr. Hunt’s hands and his affairs got so complicated that he became very uneasy and distressed’. Also draft evidence of James Powell, Toddington, tailor. Used to keep a public house at Toddington. He got the impression that he was a secret drinker. Used to take a lot of snuff. Always used to be inviting people in to have a drink.
