    i) Joshua Wheeler, Hitchin, Herts., gentleman. ii) John Ransom, Hitchin, Herts., gentleman; William Lucas, junior, Hitchin, Herts., gentleman (trustee for John Ransom reciting will (X291/320?) (proved – PCC). Reciting marriage of i) with Elizabeth Brown reciting lease and release of 1 and 2 May 1783 a) Ruth Brown; Joshua Wheeler and wife Elizabeth b) George Croke c) William Croke. Joshua and Elizabeth Wheeler released to b) – After mentioned lands to intent that b) might become the tenant in order for the suffering of a recovery. Ruth Brown released to b) – Messuage in Ampthill in her own occupation recovery suffered in Easter term 24 Geo III. Elizabeth Wheeler died without having made any appointment of said property. Now in consid that John Ransom has entered into bond to secure annuity of £30 to Joshua Wheeler. Also in consid of £50 paid by John Ransom to i). i) Releases to ii) - Messuage lately an inn called the Queens Head in occupation Thomas Lancaster and offices, formerly a malting. – The Hemp ground in Ampthill with barn adjoining to certain messuage formerly a workhouse. – Cottage, late an outhouse to the former Inn, but converted into dwelling house. Now in occupation of Ruth Brown for life. – Messuage in Ampthill near adjoining former Inn, once in occupation Thomas Langhorne, since of Joseph Fox and Thomas Lancaster and now of John Odell. – Messuage, formerly the workhouse, now in occupation of Gilbert, in Shutts End or Slutts End, Ampthill. -2 cottages in Shutts or Slutts End near above workhouse, late in occupation Elizabeth Gray and William Pedder and now John Field and Thomas Bushby. –Former blacksmith’s shop adjoining said cottages, now in occupation Robert Kent and used by him as a storehouse for beer. – Two cottages adjoining 2 last mentioned, now in occupation Richard Evans and Thomas Jones, formerly one messuage in occupation William Hawkins. –Small yard, garden adjoining. ½ acre in Doe Little Meadow once in possession Daniel Wright and now of Henry Cooper and lying on North side of lands late White. To hold to the use of ii) in trust for i) subject to estate for life of Ruth Brown. Signature (copy) of i) 15 September1795. Copy made 29 September 1808.
