- Scope and ContentHe directs what is to be done about his “Manors, lands, hereditaments and premise in the kingdom of Ireland under the provision that the said people “Use the surname and bear the arms of ‘MacCartney’ only”. Leaves to “Doctor William Stewart, the Marquis of Hertford, Earl Spencer and Earl of Upper Ossory” His house in Curzon Street with the buildings adjoining the same, together with the plate, furniture, china, books, pictures and linen therein. Also the stable and appurtenances in the Mews behind the same”. He wants his “Imperial Annuities, Short Annuities and Exchequer Bills” to be sold to pay off all his debts and legacies and his funeral and testamentary expenses” and then for the money to be invested in “real securities”. He also gave the following legacies:- To the Reverend Doctor Hume (Dead) £1,000 To Doctor William Stewart, Marquis of Hertford, Earl Spencer Earl of Upper Ossory, Major George Benson and Edward Winder Esquire, £100 each. To every servant male and female living with him at his death as follows:- To Jane Spencer, Countess of MacCartney’s maid £300 To such other servants as have lived with him seven years £100 each To such other servants as have lived with him for five years and less than seven £80 each. To such as have lived with him three years and less than five £50 each. All his other servants one years wages. All said legacies to be of English value and those to his servants are to be above such wages as may be due to them at his decease And ends:- “Appoints the said Doctor Stewart, Marquis of Hertford, Countess of MacCartney, Doctors Travers, Hume and General Benson, Executors and Executrix of his Will.
