    - Lady Mountstuart has had to leave Turin due to the heat; she is in Geneva, and the writer plans to join her in about ten days, remaining for about two months. - Hopes that William will still visit 'the boy' in Geneva. - Reference to Lord George Gordon and the 'Gordon Riots' [destruction of Roman Catholic chapels etc.], with discourse on the political situation. - Mention of the possibility of Frederick going to the East Indies, but the position he had been endeavouring to procure has been so reduced by the late Governor of Madras, Frederick feels it is no longer worth his while to accept it. He has now applied for a seat in the Council of Bengal.
