    22 April 1746 a) William Whitbread, Shillington, labourer b) Edward Samm, Hitchin, Herts, grocer and tallow chandler Consideration - £16 paid to a) by b) a) demised to b) - freehold cottage at Duck End, Shillington, late in occupation of John Langley and then of a) and which he purchased of father, Henry Whitbread term - 500 years rent - 1 peppercorn to be void on payment of £16.16s on 22 April 1749 For true performance of above, a) bound himself in sum of £32. 8 and 9 February 1762 Lease and Release 1) William Whitbread, Shillington, labourer, eldest son of William Whitbread, late of Shillington, labourer, deceased 2) James Carter, Shillington, labourer consideration - £2.10s paid by 2) to 1) 1) released to 2) - cottage at Duck End, Shillington, with orchard etc late in occupation of John Langley, then of William Whitbread, the father, and then Richard Allen to hold subject to above mortgage 27 December 1763 Deed endorsed on above mortgage Since date of mortgage William Whitbread had died and equity of redemption descended to eldest son, William Whitbread, who had granted it to use of James Carter subject to payment of £16 and interest secured to Edward Samm - £17 In consideration of said £17 paid to Edward Samm by James Carter Edward Samm assigned to James Carter - within mentioned cottage for remainder of said term of 500 years in trust for James Carter 2 December 1809 Will of James Carter of Hitchin, sawyer ... to wife, Mary Carter - freehold cottage and acre of land at Shillington in occupation of Thomas Arnold.
