  • Title
    Petition of Arnold Spencer, gentleman, to Sir John Bramston and Sir George Crooke, assize judges for Bedfordshire, to direct the Huntingdonshire and Bedfordshire justices to call before them and bind over any who refuse to admit, for a reasonable composition, haling with a single horse on the common path near the river side, being a thing usual from Lynn unto St Ives; and reciting that Arnold Spencer with Thomas Girton, deceased, erected divers locks or sluices between St Ives and St Neots for the transport of coal, salt, 'joyrne', fish and grain, and that the inhabitants of Bedford and the nobility and gentry of the county desire to have this work finished to the town of Bedford. Endorsed with direction by the said judges to Sir Lodowicke Dier, Sir Robert Osborne, Sir Oliver Luke, William Palmer, Humphrey Fishsand, and Robert Pain or 4 of them (2 Huntingdonshire, 2 Bedfordshire) to treat of the matter.
