Scope and Content
To be buried in Old Warden church in vault lately built. Exectrix is to erect a "decent monument". To nephew Samuel Ongley of London gentleman, dwelling house in Mincing Lane, and at Old Warden with household goods and furniture which are to be inventoried "and shall always continue as heirlooms to the said houses"; also annuity of £500 on condition that his sister Judith lives with him and he provides her with clothes and food etc. till her portion is payable, and subject to foregoing all freehold and copyhold lands to nephews Nicholas Godschall of London merchant and Robert Henley of St. Clement's Dane, gentleman, and also all leasehold lands, upon trust to pay debts, funeral charges and legacies; then to pay rents etc. to nephew Samuel Ongley and his heirs, in default of issue to nephew Robert Henley and niece Anne his wife, only daughter of sister Sarah Meriam deceased, to their sons John, Samuel or Robert; if they come into possession of it they are to take the name Ongley. Gives instructions as to marriage of nephew Samuel Ongley; power to him to make leases. Executors Godschall and Henley. To them all ready money, rents, jewels, plate, rings, bank stock etc. paying thereout legacies to sister Ann Lamb (annuity £50), Thomas Lamb grandson of Ann (£500), niece Anne Fullegar wife of John of Billingsgate (£500), niece Anne Handley wife of - Handley hosier in Newgate St., London (£300), niece Catherine East widow (£500 out of which debt of £200 owing to be deducted), to niece Anne Fullegar widow of Christopher deceased (£500), and to her 5 children Samuel, Christopher, William, John and Anne (£300 each), to her son John in India "the money he will owe me at my death", to niece Anne wife of Robert Henley (£1000), to John and Samuel sons of late nephew Samuel Troughton deceased (£500 each), niece Hannah wife of Richard Edmunds of Maidstone, Kent, hoyman (£300), to niece Sarah wife of - Helden in Ireland (£300), "my esteemed friend Mrs. Sarah Craddock widow" (£1000), to her 3 nieces and her nephew Peter Destombe (£100 each), Mrs. Mary Nucella widow (£100), to nephew Henry Meriam and his sister (£300 each), he owes niece Sarah Combs a debt which is to be paid; to her 2 sons £200 each, to godson Edmund Harvey (£100), to Nicholas Cross "my old servant" (£100), to coachman, footman and two maidservants (£10), to Christs's Hospital, London, £500, Bridewell and Bethlehem Hospital, £200, Bartholemew's Hospital £200, to charity in St. Dunstans in the East £200, to executors £1,000 each, to niece Judith Ongley £5,000 at 21 or marriage, to niece Rebecca East sister of nephew William East annuity of £20 "if she continue unmarried and live soberly".
