The King is seised of the mills of Higham Ferrers and Ditchford, pertaining to the Duchy of Lancaster. These are ancient water-mills, and used to grind the grist of Irthlingborough (¼ mile from Higham Ferrers; 1 mile from Ditchford). He granted them 29 May 1609 to Edward Ferrers and Francis Phillips at £25 per annum; grant to be void if not repaired. Ferrers and Phillips transferred them 1 September 1609 to William Payne. Thomas James, Thomas Rippington and David Younge have mills at Cotton, 2 miles away.
