Note: The quantity of legal papers in this collection is very large, the principal lawsuits being covered roughly by the period 1556 - 1633. These are as follows:- Bredyman versus Tyringham, 1556 – 83, (approx.). Payne versus Harris and others, 1590 – 1601. Payne versus Tyringham, 1593 – 1600. Payne versus Bredyman, 1600 – 1621. Payne versus Fawne and others, 1607 – 1621. Rex. versus various (mills of Higham Ferrers), 1618 – 1633. All except this last are mainly concerned with Podington, though the Bredyman cases also concern his lands in Somerset and elsewhere. The papers were in no order, and many of them are undated. Some are only rough drafts or notes. Although it is believed that they are now more or less correctly grouped, where the same persons and property are concerned it cannot always be considered certain. There are also a certain number of single documents, or small groups, of a more or less legal nature. These have been arranged chronologically, before, between, or after the principal lawsuits
