- Scope and Content......To wife Anne Jane £2000 of which £300 is to be paid within one month after my decease to William Gorett Romaine, Esq, C.B., to cousins, John Harvey Astell, Charles Edward Astell and Rev Gervas Harvey Woodhouse, and to friend Charles Moris Roupell --£100 each ......To said executor, Samuel Veasey £500 in acknowledgement of his trouble ......To dear wife's sister, Eleanor Margaret Tennant £10 ......To Frances Phoebe Romaine, another of my wife's sisters £100 ......To her 2 brothers, Thomas Everett Tennant and Trenchard John Tennant £100 each ......To Charles Henry Tennant £200 .......To cousins, Mary Gibbard, and Susan Bettington and to their brother, Col Thomas Bayley Gibbard £100 .......To Sarah Kennard, late my wife's maid £100 in rememberance and acknowledgement of her care and attention to me during a dangerous illness .......To each of my wife's sisters, Philippa Tennant, Elizabeth Tennant and Arabella Tennant £50 annuity untill death or remarriage. If any of them die or marry, then annuity to be paid to surviving sisters .......To dear wife's nurse, Ann Brown --annuity of £10 ........To faithful servant, William Posliffe, of Finningley, Yorkshire 16s weekly for life he to have use and occupation of cottage he now holds, for life .........To faithful and attached servant, Elizabeth Law, commonly called Betsy Law in consideration of her zealous and honest service for more than 30 years 20s weekly for life she to have use and occupation of cottage and garden in which her father John Law lived and which is now in occupation of mother, Ann Law, rent free. Debts due to me from Robert Gillons and William Davies of Highlands are remitted and forgiven Executors to pay out of personal estate ........As a donation by the patron of the Rectory of Finningley £500 towards the restoration of the church and the interior fittings as after the decease of cousin, Rev Gervas Woodhouse, the present Rector, may be found desirable or determined upon his successor. In meantime interest on the money to be paid to John Edmund Audley Harvey for his own use ........To trustees of settlement of daughter Beatrice Susan Audley Harvey £4000 for her own separate use, independent of any husband If daughter attains 25 or marries, with consent of mother, and shall not at that time be entitled to property hereinafter devised as equitable tenant for life in possesion, then .........To Col Robert Henry Lindsell, Fairfield, near Biggleswade and Charles Henry Tennant, Esq ., Privy Council Office £11000 to be invested and interest paid to said Beatrice Susan Audley Harvey and then for her children and remoter issue as born in her lifetime. If she marries she may make provision for her husband, if he survives her. She may have annuity of £400 until said legacy is vested ........To wife Anne Jane annuity of £400 in addition to rent charge of £600 as in marriage settlement .........To daughter, after decease of mother annuity of £250 to be chargeable upon his property in Herts, Yorks, Notts and Lincs ..........To Charles Moris Roupell and Henry Godfrey Astell all property in Herts, Yorks, Notts, Lincs and Beds in trust for 1000 years for use of John Edmund Audley Harvey and his children or for Beatrice Susan Audley Harvey and her children. Otherwise to nephew Thomas Harvey Dutton Bayly and children. Otherwise to any of the sons of 3 cousins, John Harvey Astell, Henry Godfrey Astell and Col Charles Edward Astell, as John Edmund Audley Harvey and Beatrice Susan Audley Harvey shall appoint by will. If no appointment to use of John Harvey Astell and his sons and then to Henry Godfrey Astell and his sons and then to Col Charles Edward Astell and his sons, and then to their daughters. If son, John Edmund Audley Harvey shall sister, or issue of hers be living, concur with any of his own issue to defeat the limitations regarding Ickwell Bury in deed of 27 Dec 1871, then limitations in will in favour of son and those of daughter can be reversed. Daughter to be protector of the Settlement made by this will. Those suceeding shall bear arms and name of Harvey in addition to their own surnames, if necessary. Trustees to pay to such of them, my son and wife, as occupy Ickwell Bury - £750, and to daughter, if occupier during her mother's life, if mother declines such occupation, and £1000 after mother's decease. Such payments to be in aid of domestic establishment. Wife and daughter have a right of residence, such right to continue during minority of any children of John Edmund Audley Harvey, if father dead. If nephew, Thomas Harvey Dutton Bayly become entitled to property, then legacies to wife's sisters be increased by £50. In same event, 4 sums of £1000 to be raised and paid: .......To Col Thomas Bayley Gibbard of the Bombay Artillery ......To each of wife's 3 brothers, Thomas Everest Tennant, Charles Henry Tennant and John Trenchard Tennant. If heir is a minor then profits of estate may be used for his or her maintenance. Beatrice Susan Audley Harvey may make provision out of the estate for any husband she may marry, if he survives her. Various provisions to take account of all possible situations ......To trustees, Charles Moris Roupell and Henry Godfrey Astell diamonds and pearls, in the possession of formerly worn by my mother, plate, books, prints, bronzes, armour, furniture, ornaments etc in Ickwell Bury, on trust to allow wife to have use of jewellery during her life, after her death, all above to remain annexed to Ickwell Bury as heirlooms.
