    Will of Sarah Foster of Great Barford, widow. [Note: in Miscellaneous Writing i, p.382 (FN 1255), where this is transcribed (Transcript A117), it is headed 'Mrs Foster's cancelled will'.] 'I commend my soul to Almighty God and my body to the earth ...'. To son-in-law John Francklin, esquire, and daughter Anne, and their heirs, or if none to nephew Samuel Palmer, all lands (unspecified) and all profits of tolls for barges passing through the sluices belonging to the navigation on the river Ouse in Huntingdonshire and Bedfordshire held by testatrix, or by her late brother Samuel Jemmatt or ancestors, subject to charges [see FN 1315 - 1316 and Transcript N207]. Under the last, Sarah was allowed to charge navigation in her will up to £500.     [Details of charity to be set up using the £500, and other personal bequests] To vicar, churchwardens and overseers of Great Barford, said £500 to be laid out in land, income to be expended thus: 1/2 to be paid to an honest Schoolmaster of good morals and of the Church of England, to teach 8 poor boys and 8 poor girls to write, read and cast accounts, and bring them to be catechised when the vicar requires it; 1/4 to clothe 10 poor women who duly resort to church on Michaelmas Day; 1/4 to provide bread every Sunday for said 10 poor women. A poor kinsman of testatrix to be considered for the post of schoolmaster, and if passed over by the vicar should appeal to the Mayor and Recorder of Bedford. A copy of the part of the will relating to this charity is to be hung in Barford church and read once a year. If the navigation comes to Samuel Palmer, he is to pay £60 per annum to mother Dorothy (sister of testatrix). For monuments in chancel for husband and for Samuel Jemmatt, £50 each. To Dorothy and Samuel Palmer, £40 each for mourning. To Arthur Walter, £21.
