    “Whereas it is absolutely necessary when attempt may be made to invade these kingdoms that no time should be lost in the immediate equipment of H.M. Fleet, and whereas .... seamen and seafaring men have withdrawn themselves from the seaport towns into the inland counties” the Duke is to lose no time in impressing upon the Justices of the Peace for Bedfordshire to make search for straggling seamen age 20 – 50. An allowance of 20s. per man and 6d. per mile travelled will be paid to the “conductors” of such men by the Regulating Captains in London. An able seaman volunteer will receive a bounty of £3.
