- Scope and ContentDear Mr Janes, Your visit to the Southern Field gave us great pleasure and your address at Fifth Company was most inspiring: our only regret was that Mrs Janes was prevented from coming - we trust that the foot has quite healed up. I also wish to thank you for your generous gift of $250.00 to be spent on the work; this has come as a great encouragement to us and we deeply appreciate your kind thought. W e also enjoyed the fellowship of Mr & Mrs Nutt and it was a great joy to welcome you all to the Mission House. I hope you will continue to enjoy the remaining part of your holiday in Jamaica as well as in the States. We would like you to convey our greetings to the General Committee and the West Indies Sub-Committee on your return. Eight candidates were baptised at Fifth Company yesterday and about one hundered and twenty were present at the Church when the candidates were received into membership. One sister was received back into membership and two others came forward to be restored after examination by the deacons and elders. Our Marac School re-opened on February 1st as an Assisted School with an attendance of 45 most of whom are Roman Catholic. Since 1948 this school has been run as a private school, the pupils paying threepence per week, it has been a financial burden as we had the expense of two teachers for a considerable time. It is therefore a great relief that Government has agreed to pay the staff and provide equipment. Another important milestone has been reached in the progress of our work. The children meet in our church building which is in some need of general repairs. At the Union Meeting the reports showed 76 baptisms for the year; the highest being Third Company with 40 and Sixth Company with 20. This was the annual meeting but unfortunately no delagates were present from St Johns: Reverend J P Hickerton sent his apology for absence. I have heard this morning that the Independent Baptists are erecting a brick church building in the new housing estate on the outskirts of San Fernando: I hope we will succeed in establishing a work here when the Sisters arrive. According to Sister Eva they expect to sail in July. With all good wishes. Yours sincerely, Sydney Poupard. PS I have since heard that the Sisters sail on June 14th.
