    -- cottage on part of ground called Batswood alias St. Anne Hill; with 6 acres (part thereof) next to it; -- several closes, formerly one, called Battswood alias St. Anns Hill, divided into 3 closes (5 3/4 acres, adjoining cottage; all in Luton; recites:- 1572/3: demise for 800 yrs. by Thomas Barnardiston of Suffolk, esq., to John Day, of woods called Battswood alias St. Anns Hill, 12 acres, lying between land of John Crawley on both sides, abutting south on William Preston; 1604/5: administration of goods of J. Day grantedd to his widow Ann; 1605/6: assignment to Geo. Day, son, with cottage now built thereon; n.d.: diverse mesne assignments whereby the property became vested in George Catherall alias Hookes of Crawley green, tinplate worker; 1724 will of George Catherall, devising same (then divided in 2 closes) to Ann Turpin; n.d. marriage of Ann Turpin to William Goldsmith of Crawley Green; 1740 assignment by Goldsmith to Thomas Roe senior of Eversholt, yeoman, in trust for Goldsmith; 1740 assignment by Roe & Goldsmith to Thomas Roe, late husband of Sarah Roe, then termed Thomas Roe of Eversholt junior, gent.; 1741 assignment of mortgage by Thomas Roe junior to Ambrose Roe, in trust for Thomas Roe; 1760 assignment by Sarah Roe to Richard Wilmer as above; witnesses: George Atterbury, William Hampson
