Marmaduke Tees has just informed me that one of the Partridges you held up as having shot after we left you in the Rain was found dead & not shot by you but found by Tom the Marker. You know you never shot it! Oh Sam! Oh Sam! Oh Sam! George says that you told him to leave the Hares at Canfields, none are come up at all & 3 partridges instead of 2 with Canfield – Oh Sam! Tees approves of this letter. George says you did not tell him to leave them, but desired them to be kept in the Larder & there they are but I write to Master Canfield to send them up by this Post. Lady Mary has a Parcel for you how is it to be sent? Yours (when you are a better Boy), C.F."
