    Includes: - 7 April 1942 "Miss Daunt gave an interesting talk on evacuation and billeting." - 7 July 1942 Letter to be sent to the Post master Bedford asking that a public telephone might be installed in the village that might be available at all hours. - 11 August 1942 "the Secretary stated that a public telephone, available at all hours would be installed as soon as a kiosk and labour were available...the jam secretary state that 83 lbs had been made to date and disposed of." - 6 October 1942 The American Tea produced £10.5.0 in aid of "Tanks for Attack" week. - 3 November 1942 Social evening "The evening opened with games, then followed a musical programme given by members of the American Forces stationed in the village." - Christmas Party 1942 "An hour and half conjuring entertainment was given by Private Hatch of the American Forces, several of the children being eager assistants." - 4 May 1943 open meeting "took the form of a talk by Miss Titchfield of the Polish Research Centre, her subject was "Some Light on Poland" illustrated by Lantern Slides, shown by Mr N Allen...a collection was taken for the Polish Red Cross which realized £2.20." - 8 June 1943 "the WI Savings Group total for Wings for Victory was £1002.0.0" - 6 June 1944 "Mrs Whitchurch had asked to be informed of any Army huts which might be for sale after the war...Miss C K Mills from the Shire Hall gave a very interesting & instructive talk on the up-bringing of the adolescent, putting forward many helpful suggestions to mothers...The meeting closed at 8.50 pm to enable members to hear the broadcast by HM the King on Invasion Day." - 5 Sept 1944 "Mrs L Brown offered to be responsible for the wool etc for knitting for Civilian Relief in Europe." - 6 Feb 1945 "It was decided that the Institute should co operate in the recording of village war time history." - 3 Apr 1945 "Mr Alan Train the local representative on the RDC gave an interesting talk on housing & a useful discussion followed, members afterwards dividing into groups to discuss Sharnbrook's Housing Problem all groups agreeing that about 50 houses would be needs & that Permanent Council Houses would be preferable to temporary ones." - 6 Nov 1945 "557 lb of rosehips had been collected & a cheque for £8.5.11 received for same...Mrs Boulnois gave a report on the Housing Problems & asked members to enquire if those wanting houses would be willing to live in converted Army huts if these could be acquired." - 4 Dec 1945 The Savings Sec announced that the total of savings collected by the group from July 1940 - Nov 1945 amounted to £10,143.4.0...Miss Wells gave a most interesting account of her journey to Odessa to fetch home British Prisoners of War." - 7 May 1946 "A show of hands was asked for in connection with the V Day celebrations proposed for June 9th none of the members were in favour of the celebrations and Mrs L Brown volunteered to attend the parish meeting the next day on behalf of the Institute. As many other members as possible were also asked to attend." - 5 Nov 1946 "A letter was read from the parish council asking the Institute to obtain by house to house visiting the number of pails of night soil that would require to be emptied should a collection be organised." - 4 Feb 1947 "A letter from the parish council was read thanking the Institute for the help they had given in collection the information the information re night soil. It also enclosed a reference that ashes would be collected at the same time. A letter was also read regarding the boarding out of children."
