  • Scope and Content
Dear Herbert, Yours of the 13th inst., I append a list of the Principal Articles which I think will be advisable to take on the trip. With regard to New Zealand it will be best to leave the question of the Itinerary until we arrive at Wellington, as you suggest, but the Itinerary given by the New Zealand Tourist Service gives one idea what can be done in the time at our disposal, and the probable cost. Cabin Trunks or Cases - These should be labelled "Cabin" "Wanted on voyage" and must not exceed three feet in length, on foot 9 inches in breadth and one foot two inches in height. Clothes - Ordinary suits and dresses for use in Austrailia and New Zealand, Canada and New York. For boat use light grey flannel trousers and coat, caps, deck shoes, Aertex Trunks and Vests (no waistcoat), collars (soft or hard) an tie, bathing costume. Summer dresses and undies for the ladies. For Ceylon and the Tropics Topees are advisable, but I understand that these may be purchased at Port Said for about 4/6 each and be discarded when done with. Dinner suit and gowns, dressing gown etc. Medicine Chest - Aspirins, Iondine, Beechams Pills, Boracic Ointment, Lint and sticking plaster. Housewife - Needles, cotton, buttons, scissors, etc. Sundries - spare spectacles, binoculars, spare laces, spare studs etc. Marking - all articles which will have to be sent to the wash should be marked by initals, or other distinguishing marks. Thanks for the books mentioned, which have not yet arrived. Yours sincerely, Sam.
