  • Scope and Content
Whereas Samuel Rolt is seised of the manor of Bassetts, 1/3rd of the manor of Milton Ernest, and water mills there, free fishing in the Ouse, and a back rey or brook to the middle of the said back stream, part of which is certain islands, cobbs or small pieces of ground adjoining a meadow of Samuel Rolt called the Holme, between the Overshott south, and an osier bed of Samuel Rolt in the occupation of John Day north; that is to say, Samuel Rolt is seized of the cobbs in the river or backstream from the Overshott to the great osier bed in the occupation of John Day on that side which is next the holme; and also of the fishing to mid-stream, which mid-stream is agreed to be beyond said islands or cobbs; William Alston however claimed the islands, and a suit was begun by Thomas Rolt, father of Samuel Rolt, and Thomas’ widow, Mary Rolt; yet considering that thereby animosities might arise between the said parties who are near neighbours, and that thereby breach might be made of the friendly correspondence and mutual kindnesses and respects which have been betwixt themselves and their ancestors, William Alston has agreed for a guinea to convey to Samuel Rolt any such rights he might have claimed. Witnesses. Daniel Lathum, Hannah Rolt, Alice Neuett, Lydia Brookes.
