    Parties: (i) Gerard Braybrook, knight, junior (ii) John Croft the elder, Operative Part: - (i) leased (a) to (ii) for £4 at 2 annual terms, the feast of St. John the Baptist and the feast of Michaelmas in equal portions. Property: (a) All his tenements with lands, meadows, pastures and feedings [pratis pascuis] and all their appurtenances in Colmworth [Colmord] that he lately had from John Boweles. Conditions • that (ii) should pay and support all charges [onera] touching on the said tenements for the full time of his farm; • that (i) has leased [tradidit] to (i) his stock there, living and dead, namely 2 cart horses [equos pro careta], each priced at 10s., 4 cart oxen [bov’ pro caruc’], each priced at 16s.; • that (ii) will sustain and maintain all houses, in walls and in thatch and all hedges/fences, walls and closes [sep’ mur’ et clausur’] and will return [demise] them in the same good state or better; • that (ii) will return [demise] at the end of the term a plough with coulter and share [unam carucam cum cultro et vomer’] with all equipment [apparat’] for four oxen and 2 horses and a new plough [unam carucam de novo factam]; yet [that] (i) should find thick timber for the said houses and timber for the ploughs as often as should be needed at the ‘circumspection’ and delivery of the Steward or his reeve [ad circumspecionem et deliberacionem Sensecal’ seu ministr’ sui]; • that (ii) should not cut or seize any other produce or profits [comodum seu profac’] from trees, hedges on underwoods unless for housbote haysbote and for fuel for the whole term of his farm; • that (ii) will return [demise] at the end of the term so much land fallow and rebinat’ [fallow land from third ploughing], namely all of Burnocroft, as is received [at the inception of the lease] so fallow and rebinat’; in respect thereof, composting with cartloads of dung [cum carect’ et fald’] from the well in the middle of the pond up to the hedge next to [a fonte in medio stagni usque ad sep’ prox’] the parish of Colmworth, 5 selions and 4 gores [and a?] headland [or 4 headland gores; et quatuor gor’ capud] up to the wood called Burno sown with wheat [sei’at’ cum fro’]; • that [he] should return [demise] all pieces under the wood called Burno, abutting against the east and west, fallow and rebinat’ and composted with dung [cum fald’]; and also, at the end of his term, 5 selions in Croweredynges fallow and rebinat’ with dung [cum fald’]; and 11 selions fallow and rebinat’ in the same furlong; • that (ii) should pay annually to (i), is heirs or executors, 2 quarters of oats [aven’]; • For observing these agreements (ii) binds himself, his heirs and executors, well and faithfully, in £20 of sterling to be paid to (i) or his certain attorney at Wodhull at the end of each term if any of the agreements in this document are broken.
