  • Scope and Content
Metheringham, nr. Sleaford. My dear Will. How goes it with you My Heartie? You'll wonder what on earth I am doing in this part of the world, so to save you turning as grey as a badger, I will tell you. I am located here till the end of June having taken the duty for the vicar, the Reverend A Barnardiston, who is out of health. He is a tremendous High Churchman, and you cannot imagine what bowings, turnings and genuflexions I have to go thro' when in Church, but the few days he was at home I could easily make a guess that he is a jolly good sort of fellow. Originally he was in the army and being passionately fond of his gun, one day blew off his right hand and closed one eye, so some nine or ten years ago he doffed the scarlet and donned the black cloth. Hope your ? is better, for when I left Bolnhurst he was rather shaky. (This is not deposited at the Record Office - for information only.)
