    in consideration of the sum of £80 (i) to (ii): messuage with appurtenances in south end of Luton, the tenament or cottage of the said Henry Goodwin and the ground or backside of John Dickins lying on the south; the tenament or cottage of Valentyne Lawrence and the orchard of Henry Higby lying on the north; abutting west on the common field there called Baylie fields and east upon the King's highway there leading from the market place of Luton towards the Brache. which said messuage the late William Goodwin, maltster of Luton, father of Henry had purchased of Sir John Rotherham Kt., and of Richard Saunders of Luton yeoman deceased, and of Valentine Lawrence and Richard Crawley yeoman by an indenture dated the last day of April 42 Eliz. At William's death the mess. was handed on to Henry. mentioned are: Mary Goodwin the widow mother of Henry.
