- Scope and ContentFiley. To Miss Milnes, Beckingham. Glad to hear that Catherine [Milnes] so soon to be married. Were agreeably surprised, walking on the sands the other day, to see Mrs Ridghill and Mrs Selina Welby. Mrs Ridghill thought the picture you had painted of your father [John Milnes) a good likeness. The town is very full of company. We purpose going to Scarborough. We left Bushmead Friday the 8th August with our own horses as far as Alconbury Hill, then took post horses and got to Tickencote to dine at Mr Fydells where we stayed till Tuesday, and then went to Lincoln. We allowed ourselves all Wednesday to see the Cathedral. Thence we went to Louth to see Mr and Mrs Emeris (he is rector of Little Staughton) charming people,. Left them on Monday, for Swinhop where we spent a most delightful day with Mr and Mrs Allington. Next day to Rawby to see Mr and Mrs Holt, the morning after crossed the Humber and at Hull saw the Armoury. Went on to Beverley where we slept, and next day got to Barton Agnes, and found Mr Milnes very well. Then to Burlington and so to Filey. Mr Milnes talks of joining us, but is waiting at home expecting Mr Grubbe. You must be much pleased with the thought of seeing your brothers at Beckingham.
