  • Scope and Content
to Mademoiselle Milnes, Paris. Thank you for entertaining letter. Hope Hester [Dawson] will make me a grandmother in about two months. I am glad you talk of returning to England in the Spring. Will look forward to seeing your drawings. Saw Mr Milnes of Barton Agnes last September, calling on his way from Bath. Have not seen poor dear Charlotte's little girl [ie Eleanora [Ellen] Grubbe]. The Beaufords are not yet returned to Eaton, but we have had better accounts of Mrs Beauford's health. My son Hugh continues to serve his church, and Bob [Robert Wade-Gery] has Bolnhurst at present. Our neighbours the Lautours are going to France for a few years - I wish we may have a good neighbour come to Staughton in his absence. Note from Hugh Wade-Gery: have written to Mr Fydell, my co-trustee, who told me legal advisers say we cannot pay more then 4 per cent interest without the consent of the residuary legatees. However pay 5 per cent on legacies from time of Mrs [Mary] Gerys death which is 3 years on the 26th of this month. Mr Jebb, solicitor, Boston has been directed to get the legacy receipts ready. It is not for any accommodation to the executors to keep legacies in hand - merely on account of your absence. (This is not deposited at the Record Office - for information only.)
