  • Scope and Content
Bushmead Priory. To Mademoiselle Milnes, Florence. You seem to be very gay. Your painting of Mr Milnes [her father, John Milnes]. Your Sisters are all musical - Dorothy used to play delightfully on the piano, and no doubt also will excel on the guitar. Mr and Mrs Hugh [Wade-Gery] have left us - they live at Hatley St. George and a very comfortable parsonage house thaey have. Miss Sikes is not married. Had a letter from Mrs J Grubbe [Charlotte Elizabeth Grubbe, nee Milnes] the other day - they now live at Plymouth. I shall be rejoiced to hear that dear Charlotte is safely over her confinement. In little more than a fortnight we are going into Lincolnshire to see my Aunt Gery and to fetch Mary Hannah [Wade-Gery] from school for the last time, as we do not intend that she should go to Grantham school any more. Your cousin Robert is quite done with Cambridge, and we find it a great acquisition to have him always at home, so cheerful and obliging. Dined at Mr Rowleys to meet the Bishop of Kildare and his Lady. Also note from cousin Hester. Also note from uncle Hugh Wade-Gery - have visited Mr Higgins at Turvey who has painted several pictures in oil. (This is not deposited at the Record Office - for information only.)
