    to wife Alice for life or while unmarried (if she marries, to son Edmund) 18 small plots of land varying in size from 1 rood to 1 acre and totalling 9 1/2 acres, and also a butt and a 'headrood' in the following places: in Merslade; in Thorlinge; by Brambridge way; n Preists bush furling;. in Depmore; in the Rushes; in Pidlesworth hill; shtg. on Bradman brook; in Redmont; beyond Swylly Ryddy; in Longe croft; on Wareshill; at Horsham mill way; in Stonyland; in Merlonge; and shooting on the chantry mill; also a third of 2 acre meadow purchased of William Harryot of Totternhoe deceased; all in Eaton Bray and Totterhoe; also son edmund is to keep for Alice 2 beasts and 1 bullock on the grounds in Eaton, Alice providing winter fodder, she to choose the 2 best ; she is also to have 6 sheep; and 1/3 of the messuage (unless she claims her dower or thirds, in which case she is to have nothing else); also the bed testator lies on, feather bed, mattress, 2 bolsters, 1 pair blankets, 2 coverlets, half the linen, the oaken coffer in the loft, the coffer 'at my bed's feete', best table in the hall, with frame and forms, cupboard in the hall, 8 pewter platters 'equally chosen,' best brass pan, great kettle, best brass pot, 2 candlesticks, 'red brass kettle with a narrow bottom,' best postnet, latten chafing-dish, 2 tubs, 2 barrels, lesser salting-trough; and maintenance for her fire 'so long as my wood doth last that is now bought (if she do dwell still with my son)'; 2 store hogs; all the new woolen cloth; to children Edmund, Helen and Alice: all rest of household goods, equally divided, 'except only a joined bed in the loft, a hallow coffer, a great brass pan, a great spit, and one coffer at my bed's head; to daughter Helen £12 above the £15 owing to her bond; also 1 cow; to daughter Alice £20 at age 16; to poor of Eaton 3s.4d.; to wife Alice and son Edmund equally - the butter, cheese and bacon; residue to son Edmund, executor.; witnesses: John Welles, Henry Cooke, John Collyns, James Cooke, Phillip Cooke, Thomas Allyne, Henry Edge, scrivener.
