File relating to an attempt by the 3rd Bn., Beds. & Herts. Regiment, on being disbanded after the 1914-18 war, to put their regimental funds into the hands of local trustees, instead of (as required by War Office rules) those of the United Services Trustee.

  • Scope and Content
Legal advice was sought from the then Clerk of the Council, W.W. Marks, (but not apparently in his capacity as Clerk), and a trust deed was executed on 1 May 1923 (draft in file), but the Regiment was eventually obliged to fall in with the official position (copy scheme in file 30 June 1923). File includes correspondence (weeded) and statements of account. The main mover was Lord Ampthill. [The file is of no practical use, but of possible interest as a thwarted attempt to assert localindependence]
