Annual report. Mixed School: the discipline and order are very good, and the general efficiency of the School though scarcely up to the high standard of last year is decidedly creditable. There is some falling off in the style and accuracy of the work in the upper standards, and some weakness in the reading, singing and English of the lower standards, in mental arithmetic and map drawing; but the written work of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd standards is very well done. Sewing is now very good, the class subjects are on the whole well taught (Geography being much improved) and the singing of the elder children and the drill throughout the School are praiseworthy. Infants’ Class: The infants, who are bright, happy and orderly, have been careful taught and are making good progress; the varied work is good, and the elementary subjects have improved. Handwriting requires attention, reading should be more expressive, and the third class should take more part in the object lessons. A Scott and K Whiteman continue under Article 68. An improvement in Scott’s work will be looked for. Enclosed: letter to Mr Lang, from Ernest N Wix, on Education Department paper but addressed from Northill, commenting that the report is not as good as last year’s. Alice Scott is not a strong teacher and must improve; suggests that she would be better for some hints from the Headmaster, 24 January 1895
