  • Scope and Content
To Miss H. Gery, at William Gery's Esqr., Bushmead Priory. Denton. Am ashamed at not having answered your letter sooner, but you know I am a person of such business that I am sure you will excuse it. Mrs. [Mary] De Butts brought to Bed last Monday of a fine little girl, very like the Doctor [Samuel De Butts]. Wished to have you here last Tuesday as then we could have danced to Music for it being my Brother's [William Earle Welby] Birthday the servants and some People out of the Village danced sixteen Couple in the Hall. Mr and Mrs Gery dined here. Papa and Mama were to have come, but former had a return of his complaint. My love to Eleanor [Gery] and thanks for her intention of sending me Pea fowls, but afraid the journey too much for them. Account of our grand Concert on 7th this month. The Music pretty but I cannot say much for the singing. A little dance afterwards, but so few Beaus that if I had danced it must have been with a Lady. Glad to hear all at Bushmead well.
