  • Scope and Content
Written at Littleton [Reigate, Surrey], ‘Monday afternoon’. ...I do not know if you have heard from Mama how very sadly Mary Lizzie [Mary Elizabeth] has been and is still, tho’ not so feverish as she was. I have had medicine from Mr. Banner[?] and hope for more tomorrow. Most of the afternoon she lies in my lap, and all day we have kept in the parlour. We have been very anxious. She had rather a better night last night but seems getting very fretful again. I do not think her cough is so bad as it was. First[?] in the morning she is a little playful. We often say how sorry Aunt Pollie would be to see her pale face and languid eyes but do trust in a few days she will be better. We had Mr. John Taylor to call this morning; he is staying with [illeg.] in Reigate. He said his wife had met me in Rothwell but it must have been you. He is going there next week-- and heard of us living here, so as he knew Papa, called. You seem very lively; hope I shall be in a state for it soon[?] but my own cold makes me feel quite an invalid and keeping in; so too with my little darling. Excuse now as Hugh is wanting to go and he is nursing while I am writing this. Accept fond love from us both and you and yours And believe me Your loving sister Lizzie Pray[?] take care and not exert yourself too much in going out.
